The New Jersey Legislature granted an Act of Incorporation establishing the Cumberland Mutual Fire Insurance Company


Cumberland organized the Minerva Fire Company in Bridgeton in 1854

1901 – Early 1950s
Continued growth required the construction of a new office building on Pearl Street in Bridgeton, NJ in 1927 

Late 1950s – Early 1960s

Cumberland's charter was amended in 1958 to allow Cumberland to write all types of insurance, except life


Cumberland's 125th Anniversary, Cumberland's surplus was over $3.5 million


Cumberland Insurance Company, Inc. was organized as a fully owned subsidiary to write Workers' Compensation and General Liability coverage


Cumberland constructed a 32,000 sq. ft. office building in Hopewell Township, NJ


Merger with Chester County Mutual Insurance Company in Pennsylvania, which expanded operations to PA, MD, and DE


Cumberland established a technology unit in Mansfield, Ohio


Completed our merger with the Mutual Insurance Company of Calvert County, Maryland

Superstorm Sandy, the largest catastrophe event in company history, resulted in over $47 million in claims.


Commenced the implementation of the Duck Creek Technology (DCT) software to enhance our policy administration system
